I'm planning a vacation to Mexico City and I'm looking for some restaurant recommendations that are safe for someone with celiac disease. I've heard it can be challenging to find gluten-free options in the city, but I'm hoping to find some specific suggestions or places that people know are safe.

Actually, being gluten-free isn't that difficult in Mexico because we eat a lot of corn. Any stand selling quesadillas should work for you.

I agree that sticking to traditional Mexican cuisine shouldn't be difficult. Corn-based dishes are a staple in Mexican food, after all.

No tortas for you and you'll be fine

When dining out in Mexico City, it's essential to order fish tacos without a batter coating and corn tortillas. Rice is also a safe option. My aunt, who follows a gluten-free diet, has found numerous gluten-free dishes to enjoy.

Mexico's rich corn heritage means you can easily navigate gluten-free options by avoiding baked goods like tortas, churros, and pan dulce, as well as battered dishes like milanesa and chiles capeados.
