What to do if I think I might have HIV in Xalapa?
Health & Wellness 2 answers • Taeyang Choi
I'm 24 years old, living in Xalapa, and I'm worried about HIV after a condom broke during sex 6 months ago. I've had multiple partners, including sex workers, and I'm concerned about the reliability of my previous HIV test, which was negative, but I'm not sure if I can trust the results. I'm experiencing anxiety and physical symptoms, and I need to find a reliable lab to get tested again, but the closest one is an hour away.

You should go to a health center and get a rapid test for HIV. Go to the health center right now and take a bus because your health is the most important thing. If you have HIV, you need to get treatment immediately or it can lead to serious health complications.

As someone who's been living with HIV for 14 years, I can tell you that you can get free tests at a CAPASIT in your city. In CDMX, we have the Clínicas Condesa, but I'm not sure about Veracruz. First, you'll get an ELISA test, which can give false positives or negatives if you're within the 'window period'. If the ELISA test is positive, you'll get a Western Blot test to confirm the result.
