My elderly Lao mother is currently in the hospital for heart issues and the doctors told her she needs to go on a cardiac diet. I'm not sure what that consists of but mom is refusing to eat the hospital food. Are there any low sodium Lao food that anyone could recommend? Thank you!

For a comforting meal, I'd prepare a light broth with reduced salt and serve it with white rice. Additionally, I'd grill or bake some chicken or fish and serve it with steamed vegetables.

Rice porridge is a satisfying option, especially when paired with boiled eggs, steamed vegetables, and a variety of herbs. For instance, Phak Gwan, a type of Brassica rapa plant, can be boiled alone and still be flavorful. My sister's mother-in-law often enjoyed this dish, and I developed a taste for it after eating with her.
