LA County’s Public Health Clinic Cuts: Where Are the Patients Now?
Months after Los Angeles County cut clinical services at seven public health centers, residents are left wondering if the patients who relied on these services found adequate replacement care. In February, the Department of Public Health announced the end or consolidation of services at these locations, citing significant funding cuts. While the county directed patients to nearby clinics, the transition’s effectiveness remains unclear.

Community Clinic Association of Los Angeles County (CCALAC), which represents local health centers, has not provided aggregate data on service usage or patient referrals. Communications manager Taryn Burks stated that CCALAC received no operational guidance from the county regarding the closures. As a result, it’s uncertain how many patients actually reached their intended destinations and received the same quality of care.
The funding landscape has since changed, with the approval of Measure ER, a temporary sales tax increase, starting October 1. However, without clear information on patient outcomes, it’s hard for residents to gauge the impact of these cuts. If you or someone you know received services from these clinics, keep an eye on your health and consider reaching out to nearby community health centers for ongoing care.
