...El Salvador's Tourism Investment Proposal Aims to Revitalize La Libertad...
As a digital nomad and software developer from Canada who arrived in La Libertad, El Salvador in 2020, I’ve noticed how the city has slowly evolved into a hub of digital and cultural activities. The recent proposal of $85. 5 million for tourism investment, announced in the 2027 General State Budget, is a significant step forward for La Libertad.

With the city aiming to attract more international tourists and supporting local businesses, I’m excited to see how this investment could rejuvenate La Libertad’s tourism sector. For residents and visitors, this means new opportunities in the hospitality, arts, and cultural sectors, as well as improved infrastructure.
Specifically, the $63. 5 million allocated to the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur) will fund initiatives such as professional accreditation for tourism workers and tour guides, as well as support for Corsatur and the ISTU. The $22 million for tourism-related infrastructure will help improve transportation, accommodation, and visitor services.
La Libertad’s tourism sector has seen a significant increase in international arrivals, with 3. 2 million international tourists visiting between January and August 2026. This investment aims to further boost the sector by promoting El Salvador as a regional and international destination, supporting more than 4, 000 businesses, and advancing initiatives across various sectors.
