Medical Tourism Boosts Puerto Vallarta’s Healthcare Scene
It’s official: Puerto Vallarta is turning heads as a top destination for medical tourism. Ever since my family and I moved here from Australia in 2020, we've noticed a steady stream of visitors seeking out the town’s renowned healthcare services. And now, it seems the local government is officially embracing this trend.
Earlier this week, the Puerto Vallarta municipal health department announced a new initiative to further develop the city as a hub for medical tourism. This includes investing in state-of-the-art facilities, training local medical professionals, and promoting the town’s reputation as a destination for high-quality, affordable healthcare.
As an expat dad of two, I’ve seen firsthand the benefits of this shift. Sure, we’re lucky to have a great local doctor, but the thought of having access to more advanced treatments just a short flight away is pretty reassuring. And for many of us, the cost savings can be significant compared to what we’d pay back home.
Of course, it’s not all about the dollars and cents. The real draw for many visitors is the warm, welcoming atmosphere of the town. You can get your health taken care of, but you can also soak up some of the best sun and fun this side of the Pacific. It’s a win-win.
So, if you’re thinking about making Puerto Vallarta your next destination for a bit of healthcare, or just for a beach vacation, you might want to check out some of the local options. You might even find yourself staying a bit longer than planned!
