Joseph Shawana, the chef behind the acclaimed Kū-Kŭm Kitchen, is bringing his signature Odawa-inspired culinary experiences to a new venue in Toronto. Giizis, a 12-seat residency at the intimate Palestinian spot Louf, offers an immersive dining experience with a focus on native North American ingredients and storytelling traditions.

The residency, structured around the 13 full moons of the Anishinaabe calendar, features a seven-to-nine-course menu that showcases dishes like seal loin tataki and rich elk cheek braised in birch ash with roasted sunchokes. Limited to just 12 guests per evening, diners can expect a hands-on and intimate culinary journey, with reservations managed directly through the chef's email.

Giizis, set to debut on November 19, offers a unique and culturally rich dining experience that challenges traditional fine dining norms. For expats and digital nomads in Toronto, this residency promises a glimpse into Indigenous culinary heritage and a unique opportunity to connect with the land and traditions of the Anishinaabe people.
