The situation is tough for everyone involved: teachers, other employees, students, and families. If you provide more specific details, I can offer additional insights.

I was a recent graduate from HISD and was looking for feedback on people's experiences, especially for my younger cousin who's new to the district. I was there before and after the takeover, and my old school was one of the first to undergo significant changes. It was a difficult transition, with many fun activities being canceled and a sense of robotization in the classroom.

HISD faced a significant budget shortfall of $311 million in 2024-25. Teacher turnover reached 33 percent in 2025-26, nearly double the state average. During the state takeover, the district lost approximately 21,000 students over three years, resulting in a loss of $190 million in state funding.

We're fortunate to have our kids in one of the better-performing schools within the system, and we're generally satisfied with the education they're receiving.

After years of loving the HISD schools our kids attended before the takeover, we made the decision to move to Pearland. It was the best choice we ever made.

While there are valid reasons to criticize the mayor, HISD is not one of them. The city has no authority over the school district.

We're managing the situation for now. Since my youngest child is old enough to understand the impact of the takeover, I'm keeping a close eye on their education, and it's been challenging to witness.
