I recently moved to Nova Scotia and have my health card number, but haven’t received my physical card yet. I was previously prescribed Xanax by my doctor overseas, but I’ve run out and am struggling without it. I don’t have a family doctor here yet, and virtual healthcare providers haven’t been able to help.

You can see a doctor and then MSI will send you a bill for the uninsured amount. Once you receive the bill, you can contact MSI and let them know you have a health card number. They will cancel the bill and send you a health card.

Benzodiazepines are unlikely to be prescribed for an out-of-country prescription by a walk-in or emergency doctor.

If you're unable to find the information here, you can contact an RN with the 811 service, who can likely provide assistance.

During an acute panic episode, I visited the emergency room and was given a small dose of benzodiazepines to take home.
