The slowest elevator in the South End gave me a neighbour

The elevator in my building in the South End takes four minutes to reach the third floor. One winter evening I shared it with a man holding a pot with a lid on. We talked about soup for the whole ride and for ten more minutes in the corridor. He brought me a bowl on Friday. I leave him bread. I think we have both agreed to keep the elevator slow. Nobody has called the engineer. I have noticed the stairs have started to feel disloyal.
