Santurce Residents: Free Vaccination Day for Pets a Win for Community Health
It's a big day for pet owners in Santurce and surrounding areas! Over 820 dogs and cats received essential vaccinations during a free vaccination drive organized by the Puerto Rico College of Veterinary Medicine (CMVPR) in collaboration with local municipalities and organizations. The event, part of the global initiative to commemorate World Rabies Day on September 28th, saw 1,640 vaccinations administered, including 820 rabies vaccinations and 820 DHLPP for dogs and FVRCP for cats. This effort, spearheaded by Dr. Harold Lidin, the president of CMVPR, highlights the importance of preventive healthcare for pets and their communities.

With 20 veterinarians, technicians, students, and volunteers on hand, the event took place at Eco’s Sport Park, Luis Muñoz Marín Park in San Juan, and the Osvaldo Gil Bosch Complex in Humacao. San Juan’s event was also linked to the city’s Patitas en la Pista initiative, further emphasizing the community’s commitment to pet health. This initiative not only benefits pet owners but also strengthens the overall health of our community.
For expats and digital nomads like myself, who call Santurce home, this is a significant milestone. Ensuring our furry companions are well-vaccinated is crucial, especially as we navigate the challenges of a new environment. By participating in such events, we can contribute to a healthier and more harmonious living space for both ourselves and our pets.
