La Laguna's Glorious September Festivities: A Day of Religious and Cultural Celebration

La Laguna is gearing up for its annual celebration, marking the Grand Day of September festivities in honour of the Blessed Christ. The event, which has a rich history dating back centuries, promises a blend of religious ceremonies, cultural traditions, and festive activities.

Starting at 10:00 AM, the day kicks off with a civic-military procession carrying the Royal Banner of Tenerife from the Town Hall to the Cathedral. Key officials will be present, making it a significant moment for the community.

At 10:45 AM, the Cathedral will welcome the official delegation representing His Majesty King Felipe VI of Spain, with Fernando Clavijo Batlle, President of the Canary Islands Government, in attendance. This event will see the Silver Staff of the Royal and Venerable Brotherhood presented solemnly.

A midday service will follow, after which the sacred image of Christ will be returned in a procession to its Royal Sanctuary. The morning activities will conclude with the Royal Banner's return to the Town Hall, marking a historical tradition that has been part of La Laguna's ceremonies since the 16th century.

Activities resume in the evening with a religious service at 7:00 PM in the Church of Christ, featuring the Achamán musical group. The crucified image will parade through the main streets, with fireworks displays in Conception Square adding to the festivities. The day will culminate with the Risco fireworks, a highlight that draws a large crowd.

The Royal Banner, a symbol of Tenerife's institutional ceremonies, has a storied past, having participated in numerous royal proclamations since Charles I in 1516 through to Queen Isabel II in 1833. Its return to the Town Hall marks the culmination of the morning's events, underscoring the historical significance of the day.
