Best place to stay in Playa del Carmen for solo female traveler?

I'm planning a two-week solo trip to the Mexican Caribbean in mid-November and I'm having a hard time deciding where to base myself. My original plan was to stay in Playa del Carmen, but I've been reading that the beaches there aren't that great, and that Cancun actually has much nicer beaches. So, what's the main reason people recommend staying in Playa del Carmen so much? Aside from its convenient location and easy access to other destinations, is it actually a good place to enjoy the beach? Since spending time at beautiful beaches is one of my main priorities, would you recommend staying somewhere else instead? And if so, where?

While Cancun has some amazing beaches, it's a popular tourist destination that can feel overwhelming. The party scene is lively, but you can also find quieter spots if you look for them. Solo travelers should exercise extra caution and stick to well-lit public areas when out and about.

As a solo female traveler, it's essential to be mindful of your surroundings and take necessary precautions to stay safe. This includes being aware of your belongings, avoiding walking alone in dimly lit areas, and keeping an eye on your drinks.

As a solo traveler in a tourist town, it's essential to be cautious and aware of your surroundings. Scams can be a problem, and it's a good idea to keep an eye on your drinks and be wary of offers to buy or sell drugs. The 5th Avenue area in Playa del Carmen can be particularly lively, so it's a good idea to stay alert and take necessary precautions.

Playa del Carmen has a friendly atmosphere, with many local bars and restaurants to explore. It's about an hour's drive from Tulum and an hour from Cancun, depending on traffic. While the beaches may not be the best in the area, some are quite nice. The town has a population of around 200,000 people, and while petty crime can occur, many solo female travelers have felt safe here. By taking common-sense precautions and being aware of your surroundings, you can have a great time in Playa del Carmen.

Breaking up your trip between two destinations can be a great way to experience different local venues and avoid the feeling of being stuck in one place. Consider flying into Puerto Vallarta, which has beautiful beaches and is very solo-friendly, or Mexico City, which is one of my favorite cities in the world. You can then take a one-way flight between the two and explore new areas.
