Few people outside of Mexico have heard of Lake Bacalar. It lies south of the Riviera Maya, below Cancun, and the hot growth area of Mahahual and Ambergris Caye in Belize. It's hard to deny the future potential of Bacalar given the government’s tourist and development plan there. They have highlighted Bacalar as the next international draw. One reason is the town's unparalleled beauty and another is ease of accessibility once the Mayan Train gets completed.
