Honda Odyssey AC performance in Phoenix summers?

We're trying to decide between a Kia Carnival and a Honda Odyssey for our family car, and I've heard mixed things about the Odyssey's AC performance in Phoenix's hot summers.

I love my Odyssey, but I wish they had ceiling vents for the AC. My third-row passengers are slightly sweaty, but not sweltering. We chose Honda for its reliability, despite the AC not being the best.

We had a 2023 Odyssey and sold it because the AC was terrible. It was working as designed, but it just can't keep up with the heat in Phoenix. We took it to the dealer and they confirmed it was working properly.

Keeping our vehicle cool takes some time, especially with the large interior space. We've found that it's best to direct the air conditioning at the kids when we first get in, and they've never complained about the temperature.

The air conditioning in our vehicle is generally fine, but it can struggle to cool the interior when parked in direct sunlight during July. The interior is quite spacious, which may contribute to the AC's underpowered feeling.

To compare the cooling performance of two vehicles, test-drive both after they've been exposed to full sun for 30-45 minutes. Place the same thermometer beside the rear-facing seat, set both vehicles to maximum recirculation, and record the temperature readings after 5 and 10 minutes.
