I'm trying to learn how to fish in Orlando, specifically at Lake Ivanhoe, and I'm wondering if anyone wants to be my fishing buddy sometime.

I'll teach you how to fish, but I only go surf fishing. I catch stuff to eat.

To get the most out of your fishing experience, it's essential to know what you're looking for - this will determine your setup, lures, and fishing location. What type of rod and reel combo are you using? I'm assuming you're using an open face reel, but for a beginner, I would recommend a closed face reel, such as a Zebco, or a spinning rod. Artificial lures or live bait are good options. Learning to cast sidearm or flip can be helpful, especially when fishing around trees or cover. It allows you to keep the bait close to the water. Most importantly, have fun and enjoy being outdoors. Do you know how to remove a fish from the hook?

Kissimmee Lake is a popular spot for fishing, especially in the downtown area. I've had good experiences there, and people are often happy to share their knowledge and tips. It's a good idea to bring some food and drinks to share, as it can help break the ice. The lake is known for its bass fishing.

Ivanhoe is a good place to learn how to fish, especially in the morning. If you're using a baitcaster, try resting your thumb on the spool and stopping it just before the lure reaches the trees. Practicing your casting in an empty lot with a plain weight can help you develop your skills and avoid losing lures. It's a good idea to start with a few practice casts before moving to a more challenging environment.

While baitcasters can be effective, I find spinning combos to be more versatile. I use a light setup with an 8-pound braided line and 8-pound fluorocarbon line for bass fishing in south Florida. This setup allows for longer casts and more bites. I keep things simple with small plugs, flukes, and 4-inch Texas-rigged purple worms. Focus on fishing near weedlines, holes, and edges, such as drop-offs. As the weather cools down, slow down your presentation. If you're looking for inshore fishing opportunities, you're not far from Mosquito Lagoon and the Indian River, where you can catch trout and reds.
