Are lockout fees typical in luxury Manhattan buildings?

My roommate and I live in a luxury building in Hell's Kitchen, and they just sent an email saying they'll charge $25 for each lockout. I think this is ridiculous, since we can just get a spare key from the doorman's desk.

We have a lockout fee of $300 in our luxury building, but we don't have a doorman, so I'm not sure if that's comparable.

I'd rather pay $25 to get back into my apartment than pay a locksmith $250.

I understand that, but in our building, there's no additional labor involved - the doorman just hands me the spare key and I return it right away.

I've resided in a high-rise building with a spare key storage compartment for over a decade. Despite this feature being present, I've never required its use, which raises questions about its necessity.

I think $25 is a great deal - my last building charged $200 for a lockout.

I think this is pretty typical in luxury buildings, but it can be annoying. Maybe they instituted it because some people were being a nuisance.
