Scams in Luang Prabang?

I'm planning a first long stay in Luang Prabang, and I'm a bit concerned about scams. I've heard that Laos is generally a safe and honest country, but I'd like to know more about the scams that do exist. Are there any specific areas or situations where I should be careful?

Laos has a relatively small population, and the most common scams I encountered were related to taxis and tuktuks. I found it surprising that these types of scams were prevalent in Luang Prabang, but they were mostly limited to these modes of transportation.

Compared to other tourist areas, scams are relatively rare in Luang Prabang. However, I did notice that many locals are genuinely kind and helpful. I saw numerous instances of people returning lost wallets and bags on social media.

I had a memorable experience in Luang Prabang last January when a tuk-tuk driver tried to sell me opium. At the time, I was in my sixties and not exactly the target demographic for such activities.

I've had very few experiences with scams in Luang Prabang, and they were mostly related to tuktuks. On one occasion, I had a tuk-tuk driver try to sell me something, but it was a rare occurrence.

During my ten-day visit to Laos, which included stops in Vientiane, Luang Prabang, and a few other places, I found the locals to be generally honest and helpful. I was a foreigner in their country, and I moved around without much concern for my safety. Even in restaurants and massage parlors, people were friendly and willing to assist me.
