On a sunny morning, the faint hum of generators and the occasional clatter of tools punctuate the calm of La Candelaria. After years of living off the grid, 38 million pesos are finally bringing reliable electricity to these rural communities, marking a significant shift in the daily lives of local residents.

Carlos Castro Ceseña, the director general of Desarrollo Social, reports that 14 utility posts have already been installed, with 85 more ready to be set up. The project, a partnership between the municipal government, the state, and the Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE), aims to electrify the entire area, providing essential services like refrigeration and lighting.

The installation process, despite recent rain, continues unabated. The upcoming joint inspection by all three partners will be a crucial milestone, ensuring the project's progress aligns with the community's needs. Whether the lights will stay on, however, remains to be seen, as infrastructure projects in Baja often test the limits of local maintenance.
