What is the status of the investigation into the ECCO landfill fire?

A month ago, the Environment Minister said Alberta Environment would work with the City of Calgary to investigate whether materials that were not permitted under ECCO's environmental approvals were present at the landfill. I'm still waiting for answers to my questions about the investigation, including what was actually burning and whether any prohibited materials were present.

Given the ongoing smoldering, it's likely the investigation hasn't begun or hasn't concluded yet. A month after the fire, flames were still visible beneath the cap that was placed over it.

A month has passed, and the garbage fire remains smoldering under the cap that was put in place. Investigations like this typically take years to complete, especially when the subject is uncooperative and faces multiple legal challenges simultaneously.

It's a long process. Think airplane crash. It takes time to gather evidence, interview witnesses, and analyze the data. I wouldn't expect any results or conclusions yet.
