Badung Satpol PP to Remove Villa Access Blocking Irrigation Channel
Since moving to Bali with my family in 2022, one of the things I've been closely following is the impact of development on our local communities and environment. Recently, Badung’s Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) announced plans to dismantle a concrete access road in Subak Munggu, Mengwi, which has been blocking an irrigation channel. This move is part of broader efforts to address concerns about development encroaching on agricultural land and disrupting water flows.
The Badung Satpol PP chief, I Gusti Agung Ketut Suryanegara, emphasized that the priority is restoring the interests of local farmers. He explained that a joint inspection team involving the Badung administration and the Bali provincial government will first verify the land boundaries before any enforcement actions are taken. The removal of the road is expected to benefit not only the farmers but also the wider community, ensuring that the irrigation channel can continue to serve the surrounding farmland.
While this development is a positive step, it underscores the ongoing challenges of balancing modern living with the preservation of traditional farming practices and water management systems in Bali. As an expat father living in Bali, I hope this initiative marks the beginning of more such actions to protect our natural resources and support local communities.
