New Winter Routes Boost Tulum’s Air Connectivity

On a crisp morning, I sipped coffee on our veranda, watching the sun rise over the Caribbean, and wondered how these new flight routes would change our Tulum routine. Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa announced 21 new winter routes to the Mexican Caribbean, including 7 to Tulum, promising a flurry of travelers to our beloved shores. The news, though positive, also brings a bittersweet reminder that Tulum's airport may soon be a distant memory for some.

New Winter Routes Boost Tulum’s Air Connectivity

The 7 new routes from Canada, spanning from October 25 to January 8, 2027, are a significant boost. From Toronto, Montreal, and Quebec City, to even a surprise from Newark, these routes are set to fill Tulum’s skies with eager travelers. However, the departure of American Airlines and Volaris from Tulum, starting in January, means that the Tulum airport will see less activity, despite the new arrivals.

This shift in air traffic could affect our daily lives. More flights mean more people, potentially more stress on local services, but also a greater presence of visitors. If you're planning your next visit, expect a busier airport and perhaps longer wait times. For locals, this might mean more opportunities for interaction with tourists, but also the need to be prepared for the potential chaos that comes with increased tourism.
