Early Polar Vortex: A Yogi’s Take on Toronto’s Upcoming Winter
The chill is in the air, and it's not just because of the changing seasons. The polar vortex is acting up earlier than expected, which could mean colder temperatures for Torontonians. But there's a twist: the strong El Niño influence might keep things milder overall.

As a yoga teacher, I see this early chill as a reminder to focus on warmth and grounding practices. Think of it like the hearty borscht served on a cold day. While the temperature drops, we can stay nourished and connected to the earth through our routines.
Environment and Climate Change Canada's outlook suggests a generally mild start to winter, with a 50 to 59 percent chance of above-normal temperatures from December through February, and a 70 to 79 percent chance from January through March. While this means we might avoid an early deep freeze, it's still important to prepare for occasional blasts of Arctic air and ensure our heating systems are ready.
For expats and digital nomads like me, this means keeping an eye on weather patterns and maybe even planning some indoor yoga sessions. After all, a good sweat can warm you up from the inside out, just like a bowl of hot borscht. So, let's embrace the early chill and turn it into a chance to stay connected and nourished.
