Did the dog get to pick where you paddled?

You were paddling a board off Bayshore Boulevard on a Sunday morning with a very large dog standing at the front like a hood ornament, ears blown back, face full of joy. I was on the sidewalk with an iced tea, filled with an unreasonable envy of the dog. You waved with one hand. The dog did not move. I counted a small crowd on the sidewalk watching the dog. I hope you made it wherever you were going. I hope the dog got to pick.
