New Modern Tourist Pier Opens on Iconic Isla San Lucas
Exciting news for expats and digital nomads living in or visiting Tamarindo: the long-awaited modern tourist pier has officially opened on the iconic Isla San Lucas in Puntarenas, Costa Rica. This development, inaugurated by President Laura Fernández, marks a significant upgrade for this historic and picturesque destination.
The new pier, funded by the Costa Rican Tourism Board (ICT) with a total investment of over ?1.1 billion, promises to enhance the experience for both domestic and international tourists, as well as improve working conditions for local guides and service providers. Elvis Barrantes, a guardaparques on the island, notes the diversity of wildlife visitors can see, including white-tailed deer, ant eaters, howler monkeys, and numerous bird species.
This upgrade is not just about comfort and safety; it also opens new doors for the local economy. With its rich history and natural beauty, Isla San Lucas is poised to attract more visitors and cruise passengers interested in cultural, historical, and nature-based experiences. As someone who spends most of my week outdoors, I can’t wait to see how this development will transform the island and its surrounding areas.
