Construction Update: Cunetas on the Birmania-Santa Cecilia Route
Back in October, the 20-kilometer stretch of the Birmania-Santa Cecilia route on National Route 4 between Upala and La Cruz saw significant upgrades. The road has been resurfaced and treated with a triple-layer surface to enhance its durability and reduce wear from heavy traffic. Now, the focus is on completing the construction of cunetas, which will add an estimated 10 kilometers of concrete channels on both sides of the road.
This project, funded by the National Council for Transportation, will continue until February 2027, with an additional investment of 4289 million colones. The cunetas are crucial for managing stormwater, which will help extend the road's lifespan by preventing water from seeping into the subgrades and causing damage.
For residents and business owners in Tamarindo, this means improved road conditions and potentially reduced dust and potholes. If you own a business, especially one near the construction site, be prepared for temporary disruptions but also look forward to smoother travel and safer roads in the future.
