Muralists in Santurce See Light at the End of the Tunnel After Years of Struggle
It’s been a tough few years for artists in Santurce, but there are signs of hope on the horizon. As a muralist who’s been painting the walls of this historic district for years, I’ve seen the challenges first-hand. The news that the city is finally taking steps to support local artists and improve the community is a welcome change for those of us who’ve been waiting for a turnaround.

The city has announced plans to increase funding for public art projects, which will directly benefit the local muralists. For instance, the cost of permits and supplies has been a significant burden, but now, with these new initiatives, the budget will stretch further. This means more colorful murals and public spaces, which is a win for everyone who calls Santurce home.
However, the changes won’t happen overnight. The city council is working on a phased approach to implement these plans, which means it might take a few months before we see the first tangible results. For now, it’s a matter of staying patient and hopeful.
