90-Day Amnesty Offered for CRIM Debts in Santurce
Sen. Brenda Pérez Soto has introduced a bill that would allow taxpayers in Santurce 90 days to settle their CRIM debts without incurring additional interest, surcharges, or penalties. This bill, Senate Bill (SB) 1497, seeks to ease the financial burden on residents and help the Municipal Revenue Collections Center (CRIM) recover overdue payments.

According to the bill, eligible taxpayers can pay the full principal amount of their debt within the 90-day period and avoid any accumulated interest, surcharges, and penalties. This provision could be particularly beneficial for residents facing significant debts, as it provides a temporary relief mechanism to manage their financial obligations.
Senator Pérez Soto highlights the issue, noting, 'In my office, I receive people with very serious debt situations that they have at the CRIM, and due to the surcharges and interest, it becomes complicated for them to be able to pay them. We have joined this citizen to present Senate Bill 1497, which we believe seeks to address this situation that affects citizens of our island.' This bill aims to ensure that taxpayers can pay off their debts without the fear of accruing further financial penalties.
