Puerto Vallarta’s Third Trash Fishing Tournament Aims to Keep Banderas Bay Clean

The sun is setting on another beautiful day in Zona Romantica, and as I bake another batch of freshly baked bread at my small bakery on Basilio Badillo, I can’t help but think about the upcoming Trash Fishing Tournament. It’s October 18, and Puerto Vallarta is gearing up for its third international event aimed at cleaning our beloved Banderas Bay from the sea’s plastic menace.

The organizers, Limpia tu Mar Puerto Vallarta A.C., have been hard at work since the first edition in 2024, when they removed 2.3 tons of waste. In 2025, the second edition saw a 50% increase, collecting 3.5 tons of marine debris. This year, they’re hoping to make a lasting impact once again.

The smell of fresh bread wafts through the air, mingling with the salty sea breeze. As I step outside, the light from the setting sun casts long shadows on the beach. I know many of my neighbors and visitors will be eager to sign up, but it’s important to stay informed.
