I manage properties in Miami and I've noticed there's a boat marooned on Hoby Beach every month. I'm wondering if they're abandoned or have no value.

Insurance fraud is a common reason for boats being abandoned on beaches. It's a trend that's been observed during recessions, where people claim their boats were damaged or lost in order to receive insurance payouts. This can be a costly issue for taxpayers and boat owners alike.

I think you mean 'hobies' rather than 'hobbits'. Either way, it's not a good idea to leave boats unattended on beaches.

It's often the case that people spend a lot of money on boats but don't take the necessary steps to learn how to maintain them or ensure they're properly insured. This can lead to boats being abandoned on beaches, which can be a costly and frustrating issue for everyone involved.

Unfortunately, some people who live on boats may not have the means or knowledge to properly care for them, leading to them sinking or being abandoned on beaches. This can be a significant problem for taxpayers who have to foot the bill for cleanup and removal efforts.

Free anchorage areas are located near Miami Beach. Occasionally, boats that have been abandoned or have broken loose will drift ashore. If the owner cannot afford to recover the vessel or does not wish to do so, it may remain on the beach until a cleanup crew arrives.
