I'm ordering takeout from a restaurant in Little Italy and want to know if I should tip the staff. I'm not sure if 20% is fair since I'm not being served by a waiter.

For counter service, I don't leave a tip unless they provide a cup and I have some change to spare.

I'm a 20% tipper when dining in and always tip delivery people, but I draw the line at tipping for takeout, as it's not necessary to reward service that wasn't provided.

I don't tip for takeout because I believe the price already accounts for the cost of service, such as labor and overhead.

I think $0 is a fair amount to tip for takeout, even though it can be annoying to navigate the payment screens to enter that amount.

I only think about tipping if I'm sitting down at a restaurant and getting served by a waiter or if I'm ordering delivery. For pick-up or paying at the counter, no tip for me.
