I'm looking for a reliable plan that's under $50 a month with unlimited data and good international roaming options, preferably with a local sim or e-sim when traveling.

When traveling internationally, purchasing a local SIM or eSIM is often a better option due to improved service and rates. In New York City, Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile are all viable choices.

For short trips to Europe, I often opt for Verizon's travel pass, which costs $12 per day. However, for longer trips like the one I'm taking soon, I'll be using an Airalo e-SIM, which costs around $40, instead of paying $120 for the travel pass.

Google Fi has worked well for me during regular multi-country travel, providing a reliable connection abroad.

Consider using a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) like Visible or US Mobile, which can offer an unlimited data US plan for under $30 with promotional pricing. If your phone supports it, an e-SIM can be used when traveling.

After using T-Mobile for a long time, I switched to a cheap provider and found that many of them use the same network with lower priority. Options like Mint (T-Mobile) and Visible (Verizon) offer similar service for around $20 per month. Some higher-end plans, priced between $30 and $40, include faster priority and international features. However, the base plan is often sufficient, and the savings can be used to purchase a local SIM when abroad. I typically spend around $20 on a local SIM when I arrive at my destination.
