The Museum of the City of New York (MCNY) unveiled its fifth annual Gingerbread NYC: The Great Borough Bake-Off, showcasing edible recreations of iconic landmarks from across the five boroughs. The event, themed 'Iconic New York,' invited bakers to reinterpret buildings, places, and things that represent their neighborhoods or communities. Angela Carlucci's depiction of the Coney Island Cyclone took home the Best Overall prize. The exhibition brings together various facets of New York City, from its literature to its breakfast scene, emphasizing how these landmarks are a part of daily life for residents.

The gingerbread creations span various iconic structures and places, including the Waldorf Astoria, the Oculus, the Empire State Building, Central Park, Grand Central Terminal, and the High Line. Each piece not only celebrates the city's unique architecture and history but also reflects the diverse culinary culture of New York. The event brings together the culinary and architectural worlds, offering a unique perspective on the city's landmarks.

The judges, including industry leaders from Magnolia Bakery and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, selected the best gingerbread recreations. This year, the exhibition also highlighted the intersection of literature and architecture, with Angela Carlucci's cyclone sculpture paying homage to the iconic building featured in the novel A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.
