Los Cabos, with its stunning beaches and rich marine life, is a true gem for expats and digital nomads. As we celebrate the Día Mundial de los Mares, it’s a great time to explore the unique marine ecosystems that make this region so special. In this blog, we’ll dive into the seasonal highlights and what it means for those living in or visiting the area.

What’s Happening in the High Season?

The high season, typically from December to May, brings warm waters and an abundance of marine life. Cabo Pulmo National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is particularly lively during this time. Coral reefs are teeming with a wide variety of fish and other marine creatures, making it an ideal destination for snorkeling and scuba diving enthusiasts. However, the high season also brings a surge in tourism, which can impact local resources and facilities. As an expat with two kids, I’ve found it’s best to plan visits during the shoulder seasons to avoid crowds and enjoy a more relaxed environment.

What’s Happening in the Shoulder Seasons?

The shoulder seasons, from June to November, offer a more serene experience. The water is still warm, but the crowds are thinner, making it easier to explore the marine life in peace. This is a fantastic time for families, as the weather is ideal for outdoor activities and the marine life is still active. We’ve noticed an increase in local marine conservation efforts during these months, with more guided tours and educational programs aimed at protecting the delicate ecosystems.

The low season, from December to March, provides a chance to experience Los Cabos in a completely different way. While many tourists leave, the marine life continues to thrive. This is a great time for those who want to explore the local marine reserves and witness the changes in the ecosystem. The waters can be a bit cooler, but the visibility is often better, which can make for some incredible underwater experiences.

What Does This Mean for Residents and Visitors?

For residents and visitors, understanding the seasonal changes in Los Cabos can help you make the most of your time here. If you’re planning a visit, consider the different seasons and what each offers. The high season can be overwhelming but rewarding, the shoulder seasons are perfect for a more relaxed exploration, and the low season provides a unique perspective on the local marine life.
