Bat Cave Tours Suspended in Hoi An: A Cautionary Broth
The broth in Bat Cave is no longer a safe bet, with tours temporarily suspended due to serious safety concerns. As a chef who spends my days in Hoi An’s riverside kitchen, I can’t help but notice how this decision affects the local food scene and the broader expat community.

What's Changing
Authorities in Thanh Hoa Province, north-central Vietnam, have suspended tourist visits to Bat Cave in Pu Luong Nature Reserve, located in Pu Luong Commune, after reports of falling rocks created hazardous conditions. The Pu Luong Nature Reserve management board, led by Le Dinh Phuong, has requested a halt to all tours and fee collection until safety measures are in place.
What It Means for Residents
This suspension means that community-run tours and ticket sales at Bat Cave, which have not been officially authorized, are now in limbo. Until the management board gives the all-clear, local residents and businesses are advised to keep visitors out of the cave. This is a stark reminder of the importance of safety, even in the most picturesque of settings.
