I have a double-bowl kitchen sink and I'm looking to replace both corroded basket strainers and rebuild the ABS drain piping underneath the sink, including the connections between both bowls and the P-trap, up to the existing drain connection at the wall. The quote I got was $890 for all, including parts, labour, and GST. Is that a rip-off?

Before making a decision, gather more information by getting three additional quotes. Hiring skilled tradespeople comes with a price tag. If you can't tackle the job yourself, you'll be left with two options: cheap work that won't last or work that's not done properly in the first place, which can be a costly mistake in the long run.

This is a project that a homeowner with basic skills can accomplish. It's not overly complicated, and the end result can be very satisfying.

You can complete this project yourself for around $100. To be safe, consider purchasing extra pipe in case you make a mistake or two. The design is already laid out in front of you, much like a Lego set.

Why are you replacing all the ABS pipes? They look well done. It's likely just a matter of cleaning them. Replacing the basket strainers might be a better option.
