I'm planning a trip to Bali next June and will be spending some time in the Tulamben/Amed area. I'll be doing 2-3 dives per day on weekdays and 3+ per day on weekends.

I first dived the SS Liberty in 1991 and revisited it last year. The experience was still really enjoyable. I've stayed in Amed a few times and was blown away by the diversity and abundance of marine life at the local dive sites.

Thirty dives should be sufficient for the area, as the sites are distinct from one another. Around Tulamben, you can explore a shipwreck, a drop-off, and coral gardens, while Amed offers house-reef style sites accessible from the beach. Boat dives can add less crowded sites with greater depth or current, making them worth incorporating into your itinerary.

Tulamben and Amed are adjacent locations, offering around 10 dive sites in total. All of these sites are shore dives. I recommend visiting the Padang Bay area, as it boasts an impressive array of dive sites that are definitely worth exploring.

There are numerous dive sites that require a boat to access, including Deep Blue, Bunatan, Batu Kelebit, Kusambi, and Gili Seleng. Many divers enjoy drifting down the slope at Pyramids, which can be a thrilling experience.

Do you think the boat dives in the area are superior to the shore dives, or are they just as enjoyable?
