Should I pay service charge to landlord?

Should I pay service charge to landlord?
Legal & Financial 3 answers • Fahad
I've agreed on a rent for a property, but I'm having trouble getting Ejari because the Dubai Land Department has blocked it due to an unpaid service charge. My landlord wants me to pay the service charge and deduct it from my rent, which will be paid later. Is this a red flag and does it show that the landlord will not be a good landlord?

To me, it's a red flag. A landlord who defaults on their obligations is likely to treat the tenant poorly later.

Service charges should not be borne by tenants. They are usually the landlord's responsibility, and tenants should not be obligated to pay them.

This situation raises significant concerns. As a landlord, we never require our tenants to pay service charges, as it is our responsibility to cover them. Tenants should be wary of landlords who attempt to shift this burden.
