Diamond Beach Entry Fee Ban: A Temporary Halt for Tourists
After nearly a decade of calling Ubud home, I find myself reflecting on another change in Bali's beloved Diamond Beach. The entry fee for this iconic spot has been suspended due to permit issues, affecting visitors and local businesses alike.

The Klungkung administration has halted the collection of entrance and tourism fees at Diamond Beach in Pejukutan village, Nusa Penida, while the licensing and site management issues are resolved. However, parking fees remain allowed, and the beach itself remains open to tourists.
I Gusti Agung Gde Putra Mahajaya, the head of the Klungkung Tourism Agency, explained that the decision is aimed at ensuring compliance with local regulations without closing the beach to visitors. The suspension of independently collected fees is intended to prevent non-compliant charges and to bring the destination’s operations into line with applicable regulations.
While the future of a potential future tourism levy of Rp25,000 per visitor remains uncertain, the current status quo allows the beach to remain accessible. The local customary village and landowners will continue to manage the site together.
10 years in Ubud after a decade of saying it was temporary. Argentine originally.
