Tattoos and Angkor Wat: Respectful or Disrespectful?

My family and I have visited Angkor Wat multiple times, and we love the history and culture of Cambodia. We're considering getting a tattoo of an Angkor Buddha, but we're unsure if it would be considered respectful by the locals.

I think it would be a wonderful gesture to wear this tattoo as a symbol of respect for the culture. I'm a big fan of tattoos and appreciate how they can showcase one's appreciation for a particular culture.

Just be mindful of where you get a tattoo, as it's generally considered a cultural faux pas to have one below the waist.

It depends on the context - Khmer Americans might have different views than Khmer people living in Cambodia. In general, Cambodians appreciate positive representations, as long as they're not culturally insensitive.

I think modern sak yant tattoos can be seen as more thoughtless, as people often view them as a fashion statement rather than a meaningful symbol.
