Why is the UCI World Championship in Montreal blocking off entire neighbourhoods?

I love cycling, but the UCI World Championship is causing chaos in Montreal. Roads are blocked, buses are detoured, and it's affecting my daily commute. I'm at a loss as to why the organizers thought this was a good idea.

Actually, it's not just drivers who are affected. Cyclists are too. The lack of communication and problem-solving is infuriating.

I'm enjoying the event and think it's great for the city. It's a big city life experience.

A little extra travel time isn't the end of the world, especially when it's part of a free event that's been amazing so far.

I love watching the cyclists every day and cheering them on. I'm not a fan of the sport, but I figure a little encouragement can't hurt - it might even give them a boost to keep pedaling.

People with families and responsibilities want to be able to go about their daily lives when events happen. The city needs to prioritize its citizens' needs and make sure they can continue living their lives as usual.

I took 2 hours and 30 minutes to get to work, normally it takes me 35-40 minutes.

I've researched past UCI events, and it's not the first time a city has been disrupted. Yorkshire said they wouldn't host events like this again after their UCI event.
As a resident of a busy Montreal hospital, this race is a huge logistical challenge. We're struggling to transfer patients between departments, and ambulances are taking longer to arrive.
