We've been working with this business for a long time. Recently, they made some personnel changes. One of the new ones (South Asian, we'll call him S.A.) reached out to our boss regarding a huge order. Naturally, we helped them secure it by working on samples for their approval to their client, over the course of a month. Together, they finalized on all aspects of the deal. One final thing remained. Just before the work was to start, their Operations Manager (apparently Brit, let's call him Mr. B) was supposed to visit our premises, have a meeting and give the go ahead. We had agreed to the time and date as well. On that same fateful day, my boss had to drop a dear friend to the Sharjah Airport. While on the way to the office, he encountered some traffic on the way back due to an accident, that caused him to get stuck. Meanwhile Mr. B showed up around the agreed time. When a boss asks a paying client to wait, it can be seen as a sign of disrespect. In a small business with limited staff, the situation can be even more challenging due to language barriers. For instance, the office staff may not be able to communicate effectively with the client, which can lead to further complications.

Your boss's behavior can be seen as unprofessional and disrespectful of others' time. By asking Mr. B to wait, he signaled that securing their business wasn't a priority and that he doesn't have much respect for Mr. B. This behavior can have serious consequences for the business, and it's essential to develop professional and cultural awareness to avoid similar situations in the future.

I'm not here to debate who's right and who's wrong. Instead, I'm asking for actionable advice on how to get Mr. B back on board. If you have any suggestions, please share them, and I'll do my best to implement them.

As someone who advises on vendor selection, I would recommend choosing a higher-priced vendor who can meet the client's expectations. If your boss cannot meet on time, it's unlikely that he can deliver the project on time. This is a simple yet crucial aspect of business that needs to be considered.
