Will Your Next Los Cabos Vacation Cost More? A 35% Tourist Entry Fee Debate

Since moving to Los Cabos in 2022, I've enjoyed the laid-back lifestyle and beautiful beaches. However, a new debate over a proposed 35% tourist entry fee is making me wonder if my next trip might come with a hefty price tag.

The current mandatory tourist entry fee, called the Derecho de No Residente (DNR), is 988 pesos. If the federal government approves the proposed hike, it will jump to 1,334.80 pesos, or roughly $66 for every international visitor. This fee is baked into the final advertised price of your airline ticket, making it invisible to most travelers.

Local Los Cabos tourism officials are fighting this increase. They argue that the fee should be used to improve infrastructure and services for tourists, not just to fund the federal government's budget. The fee could significantly impact the cost of a family vacation, hitting over $250 for a family of four before they even hit the resort.

The new rate is set to take effect on January 1, 2027. If you're weighing whether to visit Los Cabos, this might be one more factor to consider.
