In a significant boost for local residents and visitors, the OOMSAPAS water utility in Los Cabos has secured 260 million pesos in federal infrastructure funding for 11 key water projects. The funding, part of the Fideicomiso de Saneamiento Ambiental (FISAM) trust, aims to improve water distribution and wastewater treatment across the municipality.

Arturo Sandoval, director general of OOMSAPAS Los Cabos, highlighted that these projects are a direct response to the growing population and seasonal demand fluctuations. The investments include the rehabilitation of key desalination plants and pump stations, as well as the expansion of wastewater treatment facilities. Notably, the project list also includes improvements in La Brecha, a growing residential area in Cabo San Lucas.

The projects are set for the 2026 fiscal year, with bidding and procurement expected to begin soon. For expats and digital nomads like myself, this funding means a step forward in ensuring a more reliable and sustainable water supply, which is crucial for maintaining a comfortable lifestyle in Los Cabos.
