Best areas to see and avoid in Los Angeles?

We're visiting from the UK in the first week of November with a family of 7 and staying at the Biltmore hotel in downtown LA. We're looking forward to exploring the city and want to know what to expect in terms of the overall vibe and culture. We've rented a people carrier to drive to most places due to the size of the family, but are also planning to use public transport. We've got a packed schedule with visits to Griffith observatory, Santa Monica, Universal Hollywood, and a Lakers game.

Welcome to Los Angeles! To make the most of your time, consider grouping nearby attractions together in your daily plans. This approach will make your experience more enjoyable and reduce the amount of driving you need to do. LA is a massive metropolitan area, covering a significant amount of space.

Downtown LA is a central hub for many popular attractions. You can easily reach these places using the Metro. While Santa Monica is the farthest, it's still a relatively straightforward ride. The Biltmore is located in the quieter Bunker Hill neighborhood, which is close to the Music Center and various museums. This area tends to be less lively at night. However, there are plenty of restaurants and activities to explore in the surrounding neighborhoods, including Little Tokyo, the Arts District, and South Park.

Visiting the Huntington Gardens and Library could be a great idea, especially if you're interested in plants, art, or the outdoors. The gardens feature stunning grounds, an impressive cactus garden, and exhibits showcasing art and manuscripts. This might be particularly fascinating for someone from the UK.

If you're staying in DTLA, Exposition Park is definitely worth considering. You could easily spend the entire day exploring the museums and attractions, even if you miss the Endeavor. Taking the train to Exposition Park is convenient and hassle-free. In fact, public transportation can be a great option for many of the attractions on your list, offering a convenient and easy way to get around.

Be sure to visit the last remaining bookstore in the area, which is just a short walk from the Biltmore. You might also want to try to secure tickets to the new Lucas Museum, which is a wonderful attraction.
