El Salvador Boosts Farm Support to Keep Livestock Healthy and Prices Stable

El Salvador’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) has stepped up its efforts to support local farmers and protect food supplies amid adverse weather conditions. According to Vice Minister of Agriculture Óscar Domínguez, the government has already assisted over 33,000 livestock producers, treating and vaccinating more than 125,000 animals. Livestock feed is also being subsidized, with concentrated feed priced between $10 and $14, and over 16,000 tons of sugarcane bagasse distributed. The government is also building the largest improved pasture and forage bank in the eastern region to safeguard livestock production against seasonal climate stress.

In response to public concerns over food shortages, Domínguez assured that staple grains, fruits, and vegetables remain well-stocked. He emphasized that emergency measures will transition into permanent policies to ensure ongoing support for the agricultural sector. Authorities are also actively monitoring supply chains to prevent price gouging and ensure fair prices during weather emergencies.
