Do locals tip the same at a counter as at a table?

Many places in the Bishop Arts District hand me a screen with tip choices before I have even touched my coffee. I know sit down meals get the usual restaurant percentage. I also think about what a small place keeps after card fees, so I want to get this right and not just guess. Do people here tip the same percentage at a counter, or is a couple of dollars the normal thing?
