Da Nang Braces for Intense Rainfall as Tropical Depression Approaches

It's time to tighten those raincoats and gather the essentials because a tropical depression is headed our way, bringing with it heavy rain that could extend through next Wednesday. According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the depression is currently 230 kilometers southeast of Da Nang, moving northwest at 10 kilometers per hour. By Sunday, it's projected to be 130 kilometers east of Quang Tri and about 90 kilometers northeast of Hue, maintaining its current strength. By Monday, it's expected to make landfall in Quang Tri before weakening into a low-pressure area, spreading heavy rain across the region.

The rain isn't just coming; it's coming in force. Southern Nghe An to Hue could see 80-180 millimeters of rain, with localized totals above 300 millimeters. Thanh Hoa, northern Nghe An, Da Nang, and eastern Quang Ngai may see 30-70 millimeters, with some areas exceeding 120 millimeters. The Red River Delta will also experience heavy rain, with 20-40 millimeters expected in some locations, and more than 60 millimeters in others.

Living in or visiting Da Nang means being ready for the downpour. Landslides and flooding are a serious concern, especially in low-lying areas along rivers and urban centers. While some areas, like the northern midland and Red River Delta, will see 30-60 millimeters of rain, with isolated areas recording more than 100 millimeters, the north-central and northern regions are forecast to receive 70-150 millimeters, with localized totals exceeding 250 millimeters.

The downpours will also trigger a flood wave on rivers from Thanh Hoa to Da Nang between Saturday and next Wednesday, making it crucial to stay informed and prepared.
