There's a shop called มาลัยรัดเกล้า (Ma-Lai-Rut-Khao) where you can get the malai hair bun style already.

If you're just doing it for a photo shoot, it's not weird at all. Most girls get it just for that reason, like taking pictures on the bridge beside Pak khlong talad.
