Exploring the Serene Beauty of Candi Tebing Tegalinggah
As an expat living in Bali since 2022, I often find myself drawn to the less-traveled corners of this beautiful island. One such discovery is Candi Tebing Tegalinggah, a site that remains relatively off the beaten path. With only about 100 visitors per month, this ancient site offers a tranquil escape from the crowds, allowing you to truly immerse in its mystical atmosphere.
From the quiet village where an informal ticket booth stands, a moss-covered staircase of 300 steps descends into the lush valley. The path is lined with wild ferns and vines, creating a natural labyrinth that adds to the site's charm. At the bottom, the valley walls are covered in dense vegetation, providing a stark contrast to the serene opening where the cliff shrine of Tegallinggah resides.
Upon arrival, you'll find a natural stone cave that feeds a simple bathing pool, used for Balinese Hindu *melukat* ceremonies or for collecting holy spring water. This functional aspect of the site speaks to its enduring spiritual significance. The main shrine area, located further down the shelf, features two rock-cut *candi* shrines, each topped with three *lingga*.
Candi Tebing Tegalinggah is a quiet reminder of Bali's rich ancient history, offering a peaceful retreat for those seeking a deeper connection with the island's spiritual heritage. Whether you're exploring with a family or solo, this hidden monument is a must-visit for any expat or digital nomad in Bali.
